How It Works
At KC Spine and Sport, our rehabilitative exercise protocol incorporates a combination of techniques such as Selective Functional Movement Assessment (SFMA), Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization (DNS), and other functional movements. We believe that the key to getting out of pain and staying out of pain lies in reevaluating the body's functional stability.
To achieve these long term results we must focus on functional stability, and not just stretching. Stability is crucial for all dynamic movements, but also plays a large part in everyday static positions such as sitting or standing. Normally, stability occurs naturally without conscious effort. However, poor stability can become habitual and deviate from healthy motor functions, leading to pain and injury.
Most mobility issues stem from underlying stability problems, such as tight muscles, stiff joints, or irregular muscle activation. If any part of the body's motion segment fails to move properly, it disrupts the overall stabilizing function of that movement. Consequently, certain muscles are forced to work harder than intended, resulting in increased strain and wear and tear.
It is important to recognize that stabilization precedes movement. When the body feels unstable, it instinctively limits mobility. Most people will start to stretch more or utilize a foam roller when they start to feel muscle tightness, but it is often the body's way of telling you that it needs more stability. At KC Spine and Sport we aim to not only get you out of pain, but teach you how to utilize these stabilization exercises in order to keep the pain and dysfunction away.
